Wyoming Outdoor Council to Celebrate 45 Years

A weekend of family-friendly fun will culminate on Saturday, June 23,
in Lander

Lander, Wyo. — The Wyoming Outdoor Council, Wyoming’s oldest, independent conservation organization, will be hosting a 45th anniversary celebration the weekend of June 23 in Lander.

This multi-day celebration will include family-friendly fun, education, field trips and entertainment, and will culminate on Saturday, June 23, with a dinner, live music, dancing — and a keynote address by renowned, Wyoming-based freelance author Sam Western.

The celebration will begin with the Wild and Scenic Film Festival on Thursday, June 21 and Friday, June 22, in Lander.

Friday and Saturday events will include ecology and history hikes in the Honeycomb Buttes and in Sinks Canyon; a nature photography workshop; a Lander-area road bike tour; a geology drive-and-walk tour; an aerial tour by LightHawk; and presentations by experts and citizens.

Speakers will include Dan Smitherman of Citizens for the Wyoming Range, who will present on the importance of local involvement when oil and gas drilling is proposed for national forests.

Mary Lynn Worl and Elaine Crumply —of the Pinedale grassroots group Citizens United for Responsible Energy Development — will present on the necessity of citizen leadership as regulators struggle to address western Wyoming air pollution in the era of mega oil and gas fields.

There will also be kids’ activities, a happy hour, and a silent auction on Saturday.

The public is invited to register for any or all of the activities and events. Details and a detailed schedule are available at wyomingoutdoorcouncil.org.
